I was wondering why all the offered sizes through the Fotomoto cart had changed in my WordPress store.  My image files had been carefully produced so that they had aspect ratios or either 2/3, 4/5, or 1/1 (square). And the last time I checked – everything was working as expected.  Well no – the last to the last time I checked they were working as expected.  I’m using the WordPress theme Suffusion which allows you [more]

The iPad with SquareUp Vendor

A few years back, when things were looking bleak, I took my prints and setup a stand outside the Metropolitan Museum.  It was a tough life.  You got your place based on who got there first to stake out their claim; and you had to lug around prints and mats etc. Sometimes, you’d go through a 12 hour day without a single sale.  Other times, you might make a hundred bucks in a day.  Eventually, [more]

In my best moments, I see my situation as a cartoon.   I’m a few yards away from the edge of a precipice.  A rope is tied around my waist as it might be in an old-fashioned tug-of-war contest, and at the other end of the rope, hanging and swinging  from the edge of the cliff is the Monty Python anvil that now reads FINANCES! Over the last ten years, that damned anvil has been [more]

This is where the problem of outsourcing comes up.  A customer (Mr. Jones) buys a large print through Fotomoto.  It has always been a tricky print to do, but I have done it at larger sizes without a problem.  But Mr. Jones is unhappy with the print and lets me and Fotomoto know.  Actually, Fotomoto, in terms of dealing with issues is quite good.  They tell the Jones that they are cc’ing me on the [more]

Fotomoto A Summary

I have taken the time to do a writeup of my experience with Fotomoto.com so far.  If you are just tuning in, Fotomoto is a way to sell your prints, as well as deal with licensing of images and a few other things. I wrote on an almost day-by-day basis what was going on and how I felt about the process in this blog until people cried, No Mas.  Bring us new pictures! Nevertheless, I [more]

A fair amount of my business involves licensing images.  CD covers, Book Covers, once in a while an Advert and things that you could never dream up, such as lamp shades (no kidding).  Fotomoto has a very robust licensing setup so that the potential customer can click on the LICENSE LINK above the large image and see exactly what types of licenses are available, and which ones will require them to write to me first.  [more]

A close friend has been asking me for years to try to get an agent to represent my work.  She believes that there must be photography agents, like in the old days.  That there should be a listing of agents to approach and that I’ve just been unpractical all these years trying to represent myself (think of that?).  Anyway, I did put the question up on Facebook but I think it was just lost in [more]

More on Zazzle. I began to use their quick product creation which allows you to basically put a description, a name and some other info about your image, and then use that image to quickly create a whole bunch of products, though even this can be tailored. Then, for me it’s a question of waiting for all those products to show up, see what they look like – the ties usually don’t work too well [more]

1. It’s the people who ask the most questions, that almost never buy. Is it possible to get this print in a slightly larger size? 2. If you put NO I DON’T DO FRAMING in header everywhere, you will get phone calls and email asking whether you do framing. 3. Nobody (except maybe one person) wants pictures that have a human face in it unless that face is famous or someone they know. 4. No [more]

This Morning

This is what I managed to get done since 7 a.m. this morning.  I thought a picture might be worth a few hundred words. I get lunch.  Then start printing so I can package tomorrow.  At this point there are about 30 prints left (mostly the largest sizes are left), divided into about 8 orders.  That should carry me through into next week at least.  But I did get two requests for orders after putting [more]
