Why are people that I don't know tagging me in their photos? And is there any way in the security settings to stop people from doing that? Someone tagged a picture of a tree with my name. Someone else tagged a picture of themselves with my name. And so it goes.

So a) I don't get why they do it and b) it's a PITA to have to go and "X" the tags out and c) well why should I care anyway… I don't know but if I had my way, I'd turn off tagging of my images altogether. It's just a watered down sense of spam I guess.

Well, okay there was one good one – a voluptuous model tagged one of her two voluptuous attributes with my name. I'll admit, I didn't "X" that one out so fast. But after a few days, I found our relationship to be one-sided and gave her the "X"

Oh – another good one was the kid (he looked like he was about five years old in his profile pic) tagged his pet turtle with my name. I thought that was cute. Turtles… we had turtles as pets. Pretty much the worst pets in the world. But we liked them.

Okay… I'm digressing… so is there a way to stop people from giving turtles and other stuff my name?

  1. That's why Al Gore invented the Block feature.

  2. Maybe they want you to check those photos out?

  3. They are trying to get you to look at their pictures, +Dave Beckerman. Most of them. Some of them just make a mistake. But most of them want you to see their picture. That's all. I'm sure sooner or later Google will come up with a fix. What I do for now is clicking on "email if someone wants to tag me". That way I get to say no. But I'll still get the email. :(

  4. funny you bring this up as i just had the same problem myself today for the first time. +Dave Beckerman

  5. at first i was just really confused wondering why a pair of shoes is alerting me that I AM in fact those shoes. odd

  6. +Rosaita W That makes sense. But they should really put it on a good photo. But why did a guy want me to see a blurry picture of a tree? Whatever.

  7. +Karin Nelson Hey, that's good. I'm going to do that right now. Thanks!

  8. Had the same thing happen to me today but at least I can remove the tag.

  9. +Karin Nelson Okay. Sorry to be a slug. But I don't see where you do that. I'm assuming it's under privacy settings, and mine is set to notify me when I'm tagged. But I don't see how to stop someone from doing it in the first place.

  10. Happened to me a few times last week… But I have a feeling that my case was not spam, only because some of the pics were titled with my name for example "Enzo running in the park" with a pic of a little kid running… lol. Not an exact quote, but along those lines. Some people are less tech savy and just click away tagging, without taking notice that more than one person has the same name.

A couple of times I was tagged, but by the time I saw the pic, the tag had already been removed.

Dave is a popular name, so for now I would just assume that there is a problem between the keyboard and the chair of the taggers.

  11. Hmmm. I get an email if someone wants to tag me and there is a red x or a green circle in the email, which I can click to approve or not approve. All I have is the "email me if someone tags me in a photo" checked.

  12. that's just weird!

  13. Think you got to google + settings then go to ) Who can interact with you and your posts) +Dave Beckerman and it gives you some choices , not sure if thats any help, its all i can think of for now.

  14. Turtles and tatas. It could be worse.

  15. Unfortunately it is a cheesy way to get more people on your friends list to look at your picture or pictures. This is why I am more selective in who I accept and add. I have had absolutely none of the issues here that I have many times a day on FaceBook.

  16. Facebook is almost over for me as well !!

  17. I tagged a person severel times by mistake, I am in the creative 366 project, and his name begins with Crea…., I think I removed the tag from my photos again. It can be a mistake or that they want you to look at their photos

  18. Blc they like you lol.

  19. At least they have actually noticed you. I've shared pics of my art, pics of the beach, shared opinions and nobody has said boo to me. Facebook blew chunks but at least there someone would have said something by now.

  20. They may be Confusing you with +David Beckham ? :) Seriously though I keep getting tagged to people shaking hands with an elderly gentleman in a Naval uniform…

  21. Dave,I do not know you,but have seen your work on here, and I think it is great, but I would never take any without your consent. As a photographer myself,I only send my work to people that I know and trust.Never on a forum like this; george h missita

  22. You name must have some value.

  23. You obviously get hung up on insignificant crap and this appears to have an effect on you that is most ugly. What a post dude you rock.

  24. I don't do it, but u are the man! Mr. Beckerman! Rofl

  25. Only thing I've ever tagged are the wires on a repair I was doing and I still tag them today!!!!

  26. well when you are lucky enough to have 500k followers you will have these problems..

  27. In real life the answer to your problem would be to move into a gated community where the rifraffs wouldn't be able to bother you…However, this is the cyber world and the gates must be built by you!
