Grandma Fannie’s Funeral (last century), camera: Hexar Classic, Film: Tri-x, camera in the right suit jacket pocket, waiting for him to open the door as we arrive at the cemetery. Sitting between my two sisters. Nobody knows exactly how old she was, but the estimate was around 100. One of my sisters gave me a nudge – that this was inappropriate. I give her a shove back. Door opens. Click.

Nobody remembers any of that now. They never do. Years later, photographs arrive and we are glad to have them. I already know this is the way it is so the shoves and glances of disapproval didn’t mean anything. The more inappropriate, the better the shot.
