I was talking to Lester about what I’m doing with the video stuff, and he told me that this video had gotten something like 14,000 views. Did I know that?
Nope. I had no idea. I had tossed these videos up just quickly and without going back to see if anyone was watching them; and so now that I plan on doing a bunch of videos I took a look at what was going on. The WTC One-Photo video has gotten 18,000 views. (Not funny). There were a lot of easy Ken Burns effects when I was using Elements… but I don’t see them in Premiere Pro 4.0 (on the mac) though they can all be done by hand, i.e. just with the motion placement key frame stuff.
Anyway – if you haven’t seen this one, which is meant to take the most boring thing in the world and make something of it, i.e. can you make a video of paint drying that gets some sort of crowd reaction…? And as I said – when I first picked up the movie software a week ago – I have to be careful with this stuff in terms of eating up time, and driving away my photo audience, as much as I enjoy it.

I just can’t figure out the You Tube thing. I’ve worked hard putting together “artistic” videos and I hardly get any response. You post video of a printer head going back and forth and get 14,000 hits. Why?
The most popular video I’ve posted, which is Dolly Parton singing about the resurrection of Jesus, hasn’t even gotten 300 hits yet. Willie Nelson, singing another religious song, “House of Gold”, is slowly catching up to Dolly. I also had a great response when I recently posted Matt’s romantic subway photos to a Willie Nile song “Love is a Train”, but apparently his incredible photos accompanied by a great song is not as fascinating as a printer in action.
A video of close-up photos my son took of Maria Sharapova at the U.S. Open accompanied by Pavarotti singing “Ave Maria”, which I posted yesterday, has already had over a hundred hits. Maybe that will go viral. But I think the web world is a very weird place when an Epson printer is more popular than close-ups of the goddess of tennis. (google “virod56″)
My daughter discovered a short skit on YouTube called “The annoying Orange” This orange talks a lot of shit and has gotten several million views per episode!
It is an example something gone viral on youtube…The creator of this talking piece of fruit has actually made a six figure salary off of this series…
The most annoying thing about that orange is that its creator is cashing in while I have trouble making my mortgage payments.
How old is the average youtuber? 12-13 years old? I guess then the thing to do is create for that age group. There’s a kid names Lucas who goes by the name Fred on youtube…He’s actually parlayed his youtube fame into a major motion picture opening soon! He talks in a squeaky way and is not very funny, but the young ones love him…
There are two things missing from your otherwise riveting Epson epic. 1)Shots of Buddy showing indifference, so as to create counterpoint and tension, and 2) sex. Otherwise, super.
Did you ever find out who that guy was? Where he was going? What happened to the garbage can?
If anyone missed the sexual aspect of this video, they need to see a good Freudian therapist. Of course, Dave, being the modest sort, left out the part where the Epson 4800 splits into two baby Epson 2400s.
