Flat Iron and reflection of Empire State Building in sculpture on 23rd street. The camera is pointed south and you are seeing the Flat Iron building through a gap in the sculpture. The Empire State Building is being reflected (34th street) in the lower right hand corner of the sculpture. Two tourist locations not usually seen in the same shot.

I used to walk by the Flat Iron Building every day with my camera. I was always looking for ways to photograph it in a new way. I had a friend who worked there a long time ago at St. Martins Press (I don’t know if they’re still there). But at least the office he had was very tiny and of course oddly shaped as it was near the 23rd street side.

Tourist Info:

The Flatiron Building, or Fuller Building, as it was originally called, is located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the borough of Manhattan, New York City and is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper. Upon completion in 1902 it was one of the tallest buildings in the city and the only skyscraper north of 14th Street. The building sits on a triangular island block formed by Fifth Avenue, Broadway and East 22nd Street, with 23rd Street grazing the triangle’s northern (uptown) peak. It anchors the south (downtown) end of Madison Square, and the north (uptown) end of the Ladies’ Mile Historic District.
