FRAMING INSTRUCTIONS

(IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE HANDLING PRINTS)

HANDLING: Don’t touch the surface of the prints with your hands. Reason: your hands have small amounts of oil on them which can, over the years damage the prints. Which is why you usually see art curators wearing white cotton gloves to handle prints.

Larger prints may arrive curled up in a tube. Open them carefully and slowly, and if you need to roll them again to bring to the framer, use the paper that holds them curled.  Please don’t keep them curled in the tube for weeks or months before getting them framed.

The paper is archival which means that under proper circumstances it will last for many decades. You should use UV blocking glass (which is standard) for framing, and acid free materials for the mats and backing.

Don’t hang them where they are going to be in direct sunlight for any length of time. Keep the certificate of authenticity with the print. Most people tape it to the back of the framed print.

People often ask for framing suggestions, i.e. what sort of frame to use. Framing is a personal thing.  My own taste if for simple black metal frames.  The prints should also be matted so that there is at least 3 inches of border around the print, but a good framer can show you various matting styles..
